Open Book
If you feel your assessment is inequitable, the first step is to discuss it with
the assessor. This is the purpose of Open Book. Open Book for
2011 will take place on Tuesday, May 17th from 10am to 1pm. .
Appointments are suggested. Please contact Associated Appraisal at
1-800-721-4157 to schedule an appointment. If you are unable to attend Open Book,
you may call the
assessor at 1-800-721-4157 to discuss your assessment. You may also use
the resources below to view assessments of other
Westport properties.

Board of Review
If you have already discussed your assessment with the assessor and still
wish to contest your assessment, you will need to file a written or oral intent
to object with Bob Anderson,
at 608-849-4372 ext. 214, at least 48 hours before the opening of the Board of
Review. In addition, you must complete the
approved objection
form and file the original with the Town prior to or within the first two
hours of the Board's first scheduled meeting. Board of Review for 2011
will take place on June 2nd from 8:30am to 10:30am . You must have a hearing time scheduled to
be heard at the Board of Review. You will be notified of
your Board of Review hearing time after filing your completed objection form.
Hearing times cannot be scheduled prior to us receiving the completed objection

Boards of Review operate like court proceedings. Their function is not one of valuation, but of deciding the validity of the facts presented orally before them. You or your representative may testify concerning your assessment objection. You must prove that your property is incorrectly assessed relative to its market value within your tax district. If you desire to appeal your assessment in any year, your appearance at that year's Board of Review is extremely important. Most subsequent avenues of appeal require that you first attend the Board of Review. The Town Board members are the members that sit on the Board of Review.
