2008 Revaluation

2008 is a property tax revaluation year.  Associated Appraisal has been hired by the Town of Westport as the Town Assessor.  New assessments
have been mailed to property owners.  If you have not yet received your new assessment, please contact Associated Appraisal at 1-800-721-4157.

Open Book
If you feel your assessment is inequitable, the first step is to discuss it with the assessor.  This is the purpose of Open Book.  The dates of Open Book for 2008 were November 5, 2008 and November 6, 2008.  If you missed these dates, you may still call the assessor at 1-800-721-4157 to discuss your assessment.  You may also use the resources below to view assessments of other Westport properties.

Board of Review
If you have already discussed your assessment with the assessor and still wish to contest your assessment, you will need to file a written or oral intent to object with Bob Anderson, at 608-849-4372 ext. 214, at least 48 hours before the opening of the Board of Review.  In addition, you must complete the approved objection form and file the original with the Town prior to or within the first two hours of the Board's first scheduled meeting.  Board of Review for 2008 was scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2008.   You will be notified of your Board of Review hearing time after filing your completed objection form.  We cannot schedule a hearing time prior to receiving the completed objection form.

Boards of Review operate like court proceedings.  Their function is not one of valuation, but of deciding the validity of the facts presented orally before them.  You or your representative may testify concerning your assessment objection.  You must prove that your property is incorrectly assessed relative to its market value within your tax district.  If you desire to appeal your assessment in any year, your appearance at that year's Board of Review is extremely important.  Most subsequent avenues of appeal require that you first attend the Board of Review.  The Town Board members are the members that sit on the Board of Review.
